What is IBPS.??
IBPS stands for Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, which is an autonomous agency, started in 1975 with a mission of enhancing human-resource development through personnel assessment. Apart from doing many other things, it conducts Common Written Examination (CWE) and Common Interview which are now mandatory for anyone who seeks an employment in 20 public sector and Regional Rural banks. IBPS periodically accepts the exam applications from the candidates at their website www.ibps.in , and the exams are organized at various locations in the country. The job seekers will have to pass CWE followed by the common interview.

Different Exams conducted by IBPS

  • CWE PO/MT for the position of Probationary Officer or Management Trainee.
  • CWE Clerk for Clerical positions.
  • Specialist Officer for specialist officer positions.
  • RRB officer. For the selection of officers & office assistants to Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) governed by NABARD.

 Generally these common exams were conducted once every six months. The frequency may increase or decrease depending upon the vacancies in different participating banks.

Eligibility

Eligibility criterion for IBPS is not fixed and is liable to change from time to time. For example IBPS has recently increased the education qualification for clerks from +2 to graduate degree. But criterions mentioned here should give you a fairly good idea about the requirements. These are as per the current requirements

For IBPS Bank PO

  • Minimum Age – 20 years, Maximum Age – 30 years.
  • There are age relaxations for various categories and various special cases.
  • Graduation Degree in any discipline from any recognized university or any equivalent qualification as such by the Central Government.
  • Computer Literacy – In past Computer literacy was mandatory but as per today, candidates do not require any degree to apply for IBPS PO/MT. But it is considered a plus during the interview.

For IBPS Bank Clerks

  • Minimum Age – 20 years, Maximum Age – 28 years.
  • There are age relaxations for various categories and various special cases.
  • Graduation Degree in any discipline from any recognized university or any equivalent qualification as such by the Central Government.
  • Computer Literacy – Mandatory, candidates should have Certificate/Diploma/Degree in computer operations/Language/ should have studied Computer / Information Technology as one of the subjects in the High school/College/Institute.
  • Regional Language – Basic proficiency in the Official Language of the State/UT for which vacancies a candidate wishes to apply is preferable. (Some questions may be put at the time of interview to ascertain the candidate’s command over the Official Language)
  • For Officers and Office Assistants (Multipurpose) in RRBs

Procedure to apply for IBPS Exams

The procedure to fill the online application is quite easy and intuitive. The candidate may find the detailed procedure in the examination notification. After filling the application form, the call letters can be downloaded from the IBPS website after few days. The candidates will have to register before downloading the call letters. The date and venue of the examination will be mentioned in the call letter.
